My name is Adrie Hello, I was born in Papendrecht, a little town nearby Rotterdam and Dordrecht in the Netherlands. Watercolor painting is one of my greatest passions... When I paint, my goal is not to produce beautiful pictures, the mood, atmosphere and light is much more important to me.
It's just the feeling of the painting that I want to communicate to the viewer...
I love to paint city sights of one of the most beautiful
cities of the Netherlands, Dordrecht... an old city laying
beside three rivers. A city of Light.
For centuries, the cloudy Dutch skies and this wide area where the rivers divide, have both been a source of inspiration for painters and poets.
I like the old
atmosphere of the early 19th century when many famous painters came
to paint the historic inner city. I'm just a typical Dutch painter, who liked the grey colors of an rainy afternoon. Fortunately we have a lot of rain in Holland.
I love the translucent quality of pure transparant watercolor, but sometimes I like to balance it against a more opaque look. Sometimes I incorporating opague white body color - called gouache - into my repertoire for giving the colors more volome and a little bit softer, especialy in the skies...
